Waking Up

Time for the next theme song. This time it's "Passion" by Hikaru Utada. This is the Japanese song for Kingdom Hearts II. I have the English one on my computer, too. Not everything I listen to is in Japanese, y'know. Just a nice sized portion. ;) Anyways, today's lyrics aren't exactly right. I'm pretty sure they are the lyrics to the shortened version of the song, but they'll do. This is one of the songs chosen mainly by sound, and not by meaning. But I promise, there are some that were chosen because of their meanings!

"Passion" by Hikaru Utada

(wonk uoy naht niotceffa erom deen I) [1]
(wonk uoy naht niotceffa erom deen I) [1]

Omoidaseba haruka haruka
Mirai wa doko mademo kagayaiteta [2]
Kirei na aozora no shita de
Bokura wa sukoshi dake obieteita
If I recall, far far away
The future was shining on everywhere [2]
Beneath the beautiful blue sky
We were just a little afraid

Natsukashii iro ni
Mado ga somaru
The window will be tinted
A nostalgic color

Mae wo muitereba mata aemasu ka
Mirai wa doko edemo tsudzuiterunda
Ookina kanban no shita de
Jidai no utsuroi wo miteitai na
If we advance forth, can we ever meet again?
The future goes on to everywhere
Beneath the large signboard
I want to keep watching the eras changing

Hitoshirezu
My heart’s a battleground
(snoitome owt deen I)
(wonk uoy naht niotceffa erom deen I)
(snoitome owt deen I)
Hidden away
My heart’s a battleground
(snoitome owt deen I)
(wonk uoy naht niotceffa erom deen I)
(snoitome owt deen I)

Nido to aenu hito ni basho ni
Mado wo akeru
I will open a window
To the people and places I can’t see again

Omoidaseba haruka haruka
Mirai wa doko mademo kagayaiteta
Kirei na aozora no shita de
Bokura wa itsu mademo nemutteita
If I recall, far far away
The future was shining on everywhere
Beneath the beautiful blue sky
We were slumbering forever

(All my fears and all our lies)
(All my fears and all our lies)

Aozora no shita...
Beneath the blue sky...

Can’t understand some of the lines? Try reading them backwards.

[1] This line is interlaced with the rest of the song.
[2] “doko made mo” also has the meanings of “persistently, through thick and thin”.

Enjoy!
